Some of you may recall my recent post regarding my venture into Day in the Life Sessions, I am excited to share a recent shoot featuring a day in the life with San Francisco Wedding and Event Planner, Duncan Reyes of f. duncan reyes events by design. I have several reasons to be excited, first as an invitee to sit at a very exclusive table which was to host Duncan’s Dream Team Appreciation Dinner, and to have been asked to photograph the details and setup. Perfect to say the least!
As I arrived in Berkeley, parked my car and shuffled gear towards the Hotel Shattuck Plaza, I immediately spot the man himself, and shortly thereafter, his assistant and now my friend and colleague as well, Alex Barranco. Immediately as we entered the restaurant, these men got to work. Crates of rentals and chairs awaited them in the rear of the restaurant and it was great to see the entire process come together. First capturing behind the scenes as they set up, I could not help but to walk around and I recall hearing a lot of “ooh’s and ah’s” inside my head as I looked at the environment, and glanced at the setup as it slowly and meticulously came together. Design is just that, and Duncan is truly a master to say the least! I relished in how all the elements of his design tied in beautifully into the surroundings of the Hotel and especially the Restaurant 5. From the light fixtures, to the moldings to the very floors there was not a detail left out, was I surprised? Not in the least, but I was in awe, if you know me, you know just how I love seducing details with my cameras and my little lighting gadgets.
As the evening neared and the room went quickly from daylight to candlelight, it still was quite a sight, and the amount of love poured into this dinner for his Dream Team, was quite humbling to say the least. Not only does he recognize those who are a part of his impeccable team, he shows them appreciation, and I too am very grateful not only to know him but to have the distinct pleasure to work aside him during events and weddings.
